U2 - 2000 - All That You Can't Leave Behind

This Album is from year 2000.
I think many people sighted with relief when they listened to this. U2 back to their home: rock guitars, tremendous riffs, etc. Less electronica and more noise. Good album.

San José

March, 19th. Very special day.
My thoughts go to all those who have big things to renew today.
Joseph had many unexpected twists in his life. Pregnancy, travel to Bethlehem, to Egipt, the loss of his young Son in Jerusalem... The few things we know about his life are unpleasant episodes. Probably the rest of his life wasn't very different from this: living poorIy, in a small town... If God  didn't spare him form problems, being a great saint and a main character in the History of Salvation, how can we expect to be rid of toil?

I write this while still listening to Jónsi. The track is called "Sinking Friendships". He sings with that falsetto voice of his. Very peculiar. And beautiful. I wonder how long will it last.

Jónsi - 2010 - Go

Jónsi in english: doesn`t convince me.

Jónsi - 2011 - We Bought A Zoo

Jónsi is from Iceland. During the long, cold, dark winters he spends much time at his home. He has talent and time to develop it. So he comes up with these sounds.
Playful sounds, childish sounds, sounds of joy. Yet they have this slight little shadow of sadness, an infinite, deep, old sadness. As if longing for something.

His solo effort doesn't sound much different from a Sigur Rós record, which isn`t a bad thing. I could listen to them for hours on end (in fact, I have...).

I'd rather have him singing in Icelandic tha in english. It´s far mor "exotic"

I can't help thinking of The Lord of the Rings when I listen to this. Happy Jónsi is the music of Rivendel. Sad Jónsi is the longing that the elves feel for the sea.

Led Zeppelin IV - 1971

There are a lot of bands that I have sort of posponed through my life, although they are generally aknowledged as some of the greatest. It happens with many 70’s acts, like Led Zeppelin. I knew “Stairway to Heaven”, and tried to play it on guitar, like everybody else, when I was a kid. I bought “In Through the Out Door” when it came out in the 80’s, I listened to their great hits, or classics, but it didn’t get much further than that. So now I am making it up to Plant, Page and co.

This is the first time I listen carefully to their albums.

“Rock and Roll”: what can I say?
“The Battle of Evermore”: amazing!!
“Stairway to Heaven”: the crescendo in this song is great. It builds up and up to the mighty end! I love the change in 4:16, when the drums come in.
“Going to California”: beautiful, oh so beautiful.
I agree with the opinion that the “lesser” songs in this album, like Evermore and California , and Levee breaks, are absolute masterpieces
“When The Levee Breaks”: starts with heavy, massive Bonham drumms. And then... oh, my!

Led Zeppelin II - 1969

I think R. Plant screams way too much in this album.
"Whole Lotta Love": classic.
"Thank You": I love this track. Great drum and bass. And also the keyboard work gives it solemnity.
"Heartbreaker": typical Led Zep riff
"Ramble On": I definetly like them more when they slow down and stop making so much noise. And he talks about Mordor in this one... amazing. I hear there are lots of references to Tolkien's work in Led Zep lyrics. Let's see.
“Moby Dick”: what can be said about this song? Genius drum, genius guitar...

First Post

So, this is it.

Maybe some people find that their lives are so fascinating that they need to publish it and try to get as many others to see it as possible. So they look for friends on facebook, "likes", "followers", etc. That is not my intention. I'm quite a "low profile" kind of guy.

The idea behind this is to talk about music, books, sports and God, which are the things that interest me. And probably many other things.
The name of the blog comes from a song by american band The Replacemets: "we'll inherit the Earth, but we don't want it". It's not that a particularly share the idea, but I've always thought it was an ingenious statement.
The phrase is also in the Scripture: "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth" Matthew 5,5. I do agree to that.
It is also an experiment. I want to see how to get around in this 2.0 web thing: blogs, forums, facebook, etc.
There will be a lot of talk about music here. I do not intend, however, to post links to download albums. There are plenty of places to find them on the interwebs.
The future will tell, as I get used to the tools available.

This blog will be in english. I live sorrounded by spanish-related people, which I love very much, and that's fine. But the culture and background in which I was raised has nothing to do with Spain. I need to keep my english-speaking roots alive. This will be one instrument for that purpose. Besides, english is the new "common tongue", and I think more people can be reached with english tha with any other language.
